Overview
Ashworth is a specialist distributor of commercial heating, plumbing, and drainage solutions, operating a multi-depot UK operation. Serving the whole of the UK with industrial pipe valves and fittings, the company makes around 200 deliveries a day to major commercial building services, industrial and infrastructure sites, and data centre projects.
Ashworth operates its own mixed fleet, which ranges from 3.5-tonne flatbeds through to 18-tonne rigid trucks with HIAB, and 44-tonne articulated lorries.

Challenge
Prior to implementing Podfather, each of Ashworth's four depots—Bolton, Bristol, Dudley, and Rochester—operated a different delivery management workflow.
- An over-reliance on paper processes
- A heavy reliance on specific individuals' knowledge and experience
- A lack of standardized workflows across different depot locations
Solutions
Ashworth rolled out the Podfather logistics software across its multi-depot operation, integrating it with the company's ERP system to intelligently plan optimised routes across the country. Drivers use the Podfather app at the start of each shift to access guided vehicle checks, and once on the road, the app provides schedules and real-time tracking without needing fixed telematics. On-site, drivers use the app to capture electronic proof of delivery evidence, including date, time, and location stamped photographs and signatures.
Results
The implementation has streamlined operational processes, allowed Ashworth to move away from paper-based delivery notes, and supported their commitment to reducing environmental impact through smarter routing and fuel savings. The introduction of customer ETA notifications and the 'follow my driver' feature has dramatically reduced the daily number of queries relating to deliveries. Furthermore, back-office teams and management now have full visibility of all vehicles, driving efficiency gains across the entire order and fulfilment process.
The platform makes it much easier for our customers to track deliveries in real time, reducing the need for follow-up calls and improving transparency. At the same time, it helps us operate more efficiently through smarter routing, which supports our commitment to reducing environmental impact.
